Dorchester County deputies and North Charleston police are trying to figure out whether a knife-wielding man who held up a gas station in Summerville on Thursday is the same man who robbed a North Charleston gas station that same day.

A masked man entered AM Flag gas station, 10020 Dorchester Road, in Summerville, about 2:30 a.m., threatened the store’s clerk with a large knife and demanded money, deputies said.

A man with a knife robbed Fuel Express, 5995 Rivers Avenue, in North Charleston, earlier that morning, police said.

Deputies are exploring similarities in the cases to determine whether they are connected, Dorchester County sheriff’s Capt. James Nettles said.

“We’re not ruling anything out,” he said.

In the AM Flag armed robbery, a masked man wearing a dark jacket and jeans stole an estimated $350 and a cell phone from the store, according to an incident report. He then fled on foot, deputies said.

North Charleston police said a man entered Fuel Express shortly after 1 a.m., wearing a white T-shirt pulled over his face. That man stole $150 and fled the scene, an incident report states.

Police located that man’s clothing across the street from the business. Witnesses reported seeing a man run through the area wearing nothing but a pair of boxers.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
