Second suspect surrenders in attempted armed robbery in Ardmore
The second suspect in an attempted armed robbery foiled by police turned himself in Monday morning.
Bobby Eugene Warthaw, 25, of Dowling Road, in North Charleston, is charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, police spokesman Charles Francis said. He is being held at the Charleston County jail, he said.
The charges were handed down in connection with an armed robbery that happened in West Ashley’s Ardmore Neighborhood on Feb. 18.
While patrolling the neighborhood, police saw two men run toward a third man in the middle of Sequoia Street shortly after 10 p.m., Francis said.
The third man raised his hands and backed away from the other men, who were armed with a pistol, Francis said.
The suspects ran away when police turned on their blue lights.
Suspect Terry Jamar Simmons Jr., 21, of E. Surrey Drive in North Charleston, was found crouching next to a house on Balsam Street the night of the incident, Francis said. He was arrested on the same charges as Warthaw.
Simmons is being held at the Charleston County jail on $200,000 bail.
Warthaw surrendered about 8:30 a.m. Monday on Raoul Wallenberg Boulevard. He is also being held at the jail, Francis said.
The investigation is ongoing, Francis said.
