The Charleston Library Society hosts a special conversation on music with a local composer and violinist.

Edward Hart, a composition professor at the College of Charleston, and Yuriy Bekker, concert master and acting artistic director of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra will be at the library, 164 King St., for a 7 p.m. talk and musical demonstration on Thursday. The topic is Hart’s recent violin concerto, written especially for Bekker, called “Under and Indigo Sky.”

The two men will discuss the inspiration for the concerto and how it was created. Bekker will play excerpts to demonstrate the musical ideas.

The concerto, whose three movements celebrate the three main regions of South Carolina, was premiered by Bekker and the Lake Charles (Louisiana) Symphony in October 2011, then introduced to Charleston audiences in February 2012.

Tickets for the lecture ar $40 and include a reception. For more information and to buy tickets, call (800) 838-3006 or visit www.charlestonlibrarysociety.org.
