CLEMSON - Scott Firth was Clemson’s relief ace last season, called upon to put out fires in the middle and late innings.

But early this season, Firth is making a case to remain in the starting rotation, leading Clemson to a 7-0 win and sweep of Wright State on Sunday.

Firth pitched eight shutout innings on Sunday, allowing just five hits, two walks while striking out four. He induced 13 groundball outs.

It was the second quality start of the season for Firth who has a 0.80 ERA on the season.

Clemson was no-hit for the first five innings by Wright State’s Robby Sexton, but a three-run double by Jay Baum gave Clemson a 5-0 read in the seventh inning.
