Gibbes Museum to curate ‘People’s Choice’ exhibition
The Gibbes Museum of Art is planning a new exhibition and the museum staff is asking people living in the Charleston area to curate the show.
It will be the last exhibit in the main second-floor gallery before the building undergoes extensive renovations.
“People’s Choice: A Community-Curated Exhibition” will open May 3. Beginning March 1, the public is invited to go to the People’s Choice website, www.gibbespeopleschoice.org, to review 140 artworks from the permanent collection, comment and vote on favorites.
In the run-up to the public voting, the Gibbes will present four selections each week from a variety of “Featured Voters” in an effort to encourage public input and conversation.
Featured Voters include public figures such as TV news anchor Carolyn Murray; Mickey Bakst of Charleston Grill; cookbook author Nathalie Dupree; the Rev. Joe Darby; and The Post and Courier’s arts writer Adam Parker.
Public voting runs through March.

Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $9 adults; $7 seniors, students and military; $5 children 6-12. Members and children under 6 enter free.
