Police seeking suspect in Ardmore robbery attempt

Charleston police are asking the public for help in locating a second suspect in an attempted armed robbery witnessed by police on patrol in Ardmore Monday night.

Police are still looking for Bobby Eugene Warthaw, 25, of Dowling Road in North Charleston, according to a wanted bulletin released Friday by the Police Department.

Another suspect, Terry Jamar Simmons Jr., 21, of East Surrey Drive, was arrested Monday night and charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

While patrolling the Ardmore neighborhood Monday, police saw two men run toward a third man in the middle of Sequoia Street shortly after 10 p.m., police spokesman Charles Francis said.

The third man raised his hands and backed away from the other men, who were armed with a pistol, Francis said.

The would-be robbers ran away when police turned on their blue lights.

Officers found Simmons crouched next to a house on Balsam Street, Francis said.

Simmons is being held at the Charleston County jail on $200,000 bail.

Warthaw is 5 feet 7 inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

He may be staying in the area of Etiwan Gardens with his mother or on Betsy Road, police said.
