ST. GEORGE — The old, little-used county courthouse in the heart of this town might make room for a Dorchester County archives and history center.

Phyllis Hughes of the Upper Dorchester County Historical Society proposed using the facility to house and potentially make available hundreds of records dating to the 1700s, photos of its early residents and other artifacts.

County Council on Monday said the proposal would be considered, although council members cautioned the center shouldn’t derail other planned uses of the building.
