Charleston County residents to get license decals faster

Charleston County residents will get the decals for their license plates more quickly, and the county will save $72,000 per year under a new collaborative system between the county Treasurer’s Office and the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

In the past, residents sent in their vehicle tax payment to the Treasurer, then got one piece of mail from the Treasurer with the receipt of the payment, and another from the DMV containing the registration and decal for the license plate.

Now, residents will get only one piece of mail from the DMV, which contains the receipt of the payment, the registration, and the decal for the license plate.

Charleston County Treasurer Andrew Smith said the cumulative effect of saving $72,000 per year will benefit the county in the future.
