Gaillard grave count now up to 29
The count of potential gravesites discovered at the Gaillard Auditorium construction site is now up to 29, Mayor Joe Riley said today in a letter to City Council.
He also said a public hearing will be held to discuss the remains and their eventual removal, likely to a cemetery.
The last count was 27 graves found, but archaelogists are in the process this week of uncovering the graves and recovering any artifacts and remains. The graves are believed to date to the early 1700s.
