State Highway Commissioner Jim Rozier of Berkeley County said Tuesday he wants to put the brakes on a plan to cut down nearly 30 miles of trees in the Interstate 26 median.

Rozier said he will bring the issue before the state Department of Transportation Commission on Thursday.

Many constituents in DOT District 6, which includes Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties, have called to express opposition to the plan to clear trees in the I-26 median from Summerville to just east of Interstate 95, he said.
