Berkeley to kick off safe-driving campaign

After a Sangaree Elementary School crossing guard was nearly struck by a car Feb. 8 in front of the Royle Road school, Berkeley County School District officials finally had enough.

The Berkeley County School District will kick off a public service message campaign Tuesday called “Drive Like Your Child Lives Here” aimed at encouraging people to drive carefully in the area of Sangaree Elementary, Sangaree Intermediate and Sangaree Middle schools.

Over the years, there have been several incidents in the area. Last May, another crossing guard, Natalie Boles, ended up in intensive care after being struck by a vehicle.
