Stingrays handle Solar Bears, 3-0
ORLANDO, FLA. — South Carolina forward Robby Dee and defenseman Luka Vidmar each recorded three-point games and goaltender Ryan Zapolski earned his ECHL-leading fifth shutout to lift the Stingrays (28-23-2-3) over the Orlando Solar Bears (23-26-2-3) 3-0 at the Amway Center on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, the Stingrays extended their point streak to six games (5-0-1-0).
The Stingrays next play Friday when they host the Greenville Road Warriors at 7 p.m.
Dee, who had two goals and an assist, broke a scoreless tie 9:28 into the second period, lifting a wrist shot over the glove of Bears goaltender Patrick Killeen, who had 34 saves on 37 shots, from between the faceoff circles. Adding assists were forward Andrew Cherniwchan and Vidmar, who had three total assists on the day. Through two periods, the Stingrays outshot the Solar Bears 25-11.
In the third period, Dee found the net for his second goal of the game on the power play at 7:42 from Vidmar and forward Hunter Bishop. Bishop wrapped up the contest with a man-advantage marker at 12:54 with help from Dee and Vidmar.
The Stingrays finished the game 2 for 8 on the power play while the Solar Bears went 0 for 3.
