Clemson baseball falls to William & Mary

The Tribe (1-1) broke the game open with three runs in the third inning, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. In all, William & Mary combined to score its 11 runs in five different innings. In each of those five innings, the Tribe’s leadoff batter was retired.

Starter John Farrell (1-0) earned the win, allowing Clemson (1-1) nine hits, two runs, and one walk with four strikeouts.

Sophomore Patrick Andrews (0-1) suffered the loss in his first career start. He yielded five hits, four runs, and one walk with three strikeouts over three innings. Six pitchers in all took the mound for the Tigers, including freshman Clate Schmidt, who pitched the final 2.2 innings without allowing a run.

The top four batters in the Tribe lineup combined to go 12 for 17 (.706) with two doubles, eight RBIs, and eight runs. Lindemuth went 4-for-5 with a double, RBI, and two runs, while Katz went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two walks. Brown went 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs, and two walks as well.

Shane Kennedy and Jay Baum had two hits apiece to pace the Tigers, who had 10 hits in the contest.
