Still a good possibility of some snow here tonight

A little snow will impact the Charleston tri-county area tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Low pressure off the mid-Atlantic coast will intensify this evening, the Weather Service said in a special statement.

Moisture wrapping around that low-pressure system will extend into the tri-county area, bringing rain. The temperatures are expected to begin falling this afternoon, as much colder air is ushered in by a strong Arctic cold front passing through with gusty northwest winds.

As the temperatures fall into the 30s, there will be rain mixing with snow, but the precipitation is expected to change to all snow in parts of Berkeley and northern Charleston counties between 10 p.m. and midnight.

The snow is expected to end between midnight and 1 a.m., with little or no accumulation expected, the Weather Service said. However, if a steady band of snow develops off Lake Moultrie, or if the snow lasts longer than is currently anticipated, then a small accumulation is possible in parts of Berkeley County.

Roadways in the area will be mainly wet tonight, but as temperatures drop below freezing, some bridges and overpasses may become slippery.

Today should be partly cloudy with a chance of rain in the morning, then overcast with rain. The high is expected to reach 55, with a 60 percent chance of rain.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a chance of snow, then clear. The low is forecast to be 28 degrees, with a windchill factor as low as 19. It will be windy, with winds from the northwest at 20 to 30 mph, and gusts as high as 40 mph.

Sunday should be clear, with a high of 48 and breezy, with winds out of the northwest at 15 to 20 mph.

Sunday night should be clear, with a low of 30 degrees and winds less than 5 mph.
