The count of graves found at the Gaillard Auditorium construction site is now at 27 confirmed, plus a couple of more sites are possible.

Archaeoligist Eric Poplin said this morning that most of the work today will concentrate on mapping each grave and recording their plotting points by global positioning system.

City officials and the coroner’s office are scheduled to meet later today on how to proceed.

Poplin believes the graves pre-date 1780 or possibly much earlier.

The first two graves were discovered last week when crews were digging a trench for a water line. The Gaillard is under-going a $142 million upgrade.
