Charleston police ask for help in finding downtown robber

Charleston police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who robbed a restaurant worker on Jan. 24.

The robbery occurred between 10 and 10:30 a.m. that day on Linguard Street.

A local restaurant employee was entering his parked vehicle when a man approached him with a stun gun and demanded money, police said. The victim did as he was told.

Witnesses to the crime saw the suspect enter a silver or champagne four-door vehicle, police said. This vehicle, believed to be a 2000-2005 Ford Focus, was parked at State Street and Linguard Street prior to the robbery and was seen driving up as the robbery occurred, police said.

The suspect got in the vehicle to flee from the Market area, police said.

The robber was described as a black man wearing black baggy clothing and a goatee. He was about 5 feet 10 inches tall, of slender to medium build and “younger looking.”

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the individuals involved in this robbery.

Anyone with information on the crime can call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
