Youth struck by truck, injured in front of Goose Creek High School
A pickup truck struck and injured a juvenile pedestrian who was trying to cross Redbank Road in front of Goose Creek High School this afternoon.
A person was driving a Nissan pickup west on the road when the vehicle struck the youth around 2 p.m., according to the S.C Highway Patrol. The youth was at fault for not crossing the road at the crosswalk, Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said.
The youth, whose identity and gender have not been released, was transported to Medical University Hospital for treatment, Wyant said.
Wyant said she did not know if the youth attends the school, which was not in session at the time.
The driver of the pickup truck was slowing for a traffic light when the youth entered the road from the right, Wyant said. The juvenile ran between cars stopped at the light and into the path of the pickup, she said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
