Patriots Point takes up Medal of Honor Museum lease today in Mount Pleasant
Patriots Point Development Authority is meeting today on the aircraft carrier Yorktown to take up the contract for the $100 million Medal of Honor Museum again.
The discussion will take place behind closed doors as the state agency tries to iron out differences with the museum’s organizing committee over the proposed 99-year lease for the project overlooking Charleston Harbor.
The Patriots Point board voted earlier this month to offer the museum the lease for $1 a year on 7.4 acres it owns on the waterfront. The Medal of Honor Museum organizing committee has some concerns on the timeline for development in the contract, said Mac Burdette, executive director of Patriots Point.
The authority wants to resolve those issues before submitting the lease contract to the state Budget and Control Board, which must approve the deal.
