The South Carolina Ports Authority will announce later today a federal air-emissions reduction grant for funding its truck replacement program, according to officials.

Officials will announce details about the program during an 11 a.m. news conference at SPA’s Columbus Street Terminal in Charleston.

Truckers can now receive a $10,000 incentive to scrap their pre-1994 trucks and replace them with a 2004 or newer model, official said.

The program is an effort to lessen the carbon footprint of rigs used at ports.
