Five-star QB commitment Deshaun Watson says he’s sticking with Clemson in 2014
CLEMSON — The perception has been that five-star quarterback prospect Deshaun Watson’s commitment to Clemson for 2014 is tied to offensive coordinator Chad Morris remaining at Clemson after next season, and Morris’ status seems tenuous after he spoke with several schools about head coaching openings last offseason.
But the 6-4, 195-pound Watson told TigerIllustrated.com this week that he will sign with Clemson next year regardless of whether Morris is still with the program.
The dual-threat Watson would be an elite prospect to build a class around.
Clemson starting quarterback Tajh Boyd is a senior. Behind Boyd is sophomore Cole Stoudt and redshirt freshman Chip Kelly, also a highly-touted recruit who was hand picked by Morris.
Watson, a junior, has already broken a number of state passing records in Georgia.
