SUMMERVILLE — Police walk-through surveys are planned in March to check security at Dorchester District 2 schools. That’s one of the safety initiatives Superintendent Joe Pye will brief Town Council on tonight.

The surveys will augment staff walk-throughs that made recommendations such as more lock keypads and fencing, said Pat Raynor. The security step-up is part of a nationwide trend in the wake of the mass shooting in December at a Newtown, Conn. elementary school.

Pye will speak at the monthly Summerville Town Council meeting, at the invitation of Mayor Bill Collins as part of the agenda. The meeting takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall annex, 200 S. Main St.
