Ashley Phosphate Road was shut down today in both directions near Southrail Road, causing a traffic mess in North Charleston, after a CSX train struck a truck that had stopped on the tracks.
“The driver could not move the vehicle off the track because of traffic in front and behind him,” said Spencer Pryor, spokesman for the North Charleston Police Department. “The driver was able to get out of the truck before impact but a passenger remained inside.”
There were, however, no injuries resulting from the collision, according to Pryor.
He said CSX inspectors were in route to scene.
Traffic was being redirected via Cross County Road, Palmetto Commerce Parkway and Stall Road. By 5:30 p.m., traffic on Ashley Phosphate Road was flowing again in both directions.
