A former Wando High School student who was shot 10 times in Las Vegas last week is generating a wave of support among friends who remember him.
Jeremy Miller went to Wando High School until his family moved to Las Vegas a few months before he graduated in 2011. His father, Atom Miller, is executive chef at Midtown in Las Vegas.
Jeremy was shot 10 times just after midnight Feb. 6 in an elevator outside the Regal United Artists Showcase Theater in Las Vegas. Family and police say he was shot because two groups of young people were arguing over a girl.
Police arrested Devante Jeffers, 18, several hours after the shooting on charges that include attempted murder and are looking for a second suspect.
Jeremy has been lying in a hospital bed in an induced coma since he was shot, with a bullet lodged in his spine. His father, reached today by telephone, said Jeremy will be permanently paralyzed from the waist down but he’s thankful his son is alive.
Friends have been sending tweets expressing their support under the hashtag #JeremyMillerFund.
The family is facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills. Atom Miller has set up a fund that can be contributed to any Wells Fargo bank branch. Payments can also be through Paypal at Jeremymillerfund@gmail.com.
