Charleston School of Law student leader impeached

The president of the Charleston School of Law’s Student Bar Association has been impeached.

Shun Griffin is facing a stalking charge and was arrested Oct. 21 in Columbia.

John Gentry, a third-year student and a member of the Student Bar Association’s Senate, said the group voted Sunday to impeach Griffin.

SBA vice president Andrea Ruege has stepped into the group’s top post, Gentry said.

The SBA in the next several days will release the minutes of Sunday’s meeting to the student body, Gentry said.

He also said Griffin was impeached, in part, because of the stalking charge, but also due to “practical considerations for him not doing his job.”

Griffin was arrested Oct. 21 in Columbia, according to Richland County court records brought to The Post and Courier’s attention last month.

Charleston School of Law spokesman Andy Brack said the SBA is an extracurricular activity, outside of the purview of the formal law school structure. It has its own constitution and processes.

“We understand the association voted to remove Mr. Griffin from his leadership position over the weekend, just as any organization may elect to do. More information will have to come from the organization as the administration has an informal policy of keeping out of the business of student groups,” Brack said.
