Former Clyburn adviser running for S.C. Democratic Party chair
COLUMBIA — Jamie Harrison, a former adviser to Congressman Jim Clyburn and the U.S. Democratic Caucus, is seeking to become the next leader of the S.C. Democratic Party.
Harrison, 37, is an Orangeburg native who serves as a Washington lobbyist for The Podesta Group.
Harrison said if elected May 4, he will focus on building county parties and developing up-and-coming Democratic candidates.
Current party Chairman Dick Harpootlian is not seeking re-election. Harrison is the first candidate to formally announce for the office.
