Sen. Lindsey Graham: New background checks for guns won’t do any good
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham said most everyone involved in the gun control debate can rally around the idea of denying weapons to criminals and the mentally unstable.
The problem is, he said, those laws already are on the books but not doing the job.
“Last year, 70,000 people failed a background check, and only 44 were prosecuted, so adding new background checks won’t do any good if there’s no deterrent,” he said.
Graham, who personally owns an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, is not in favor of limiting the size of guns’ magazines. “One, criminals are not going to buy into this limitation, and there are millions of high-capacity magazines available throughout the country,” he said. “Millions.”
