CSU softball closes out tournament with split
Charleston Southern closed out its opening weekend softball tournament with a split on Saturday, winning the first game against George Mason, 6-4, before falling to UNC Greensboro in the second game, 5-4.
Stephanie Sbardella and Jana Matthews provided the bats for the Buccaneers (1-2), with each picking up their first home runs of the season.
Sbardella finished the day 5 for 6 with a double, home run and three RBIs, while Matthews drove in three runs with her 26th career homer in the top of the first inning against UNC Greensboro.
CSU will make its first road this season as the Buccaneers take on College of Charleston in a doubleheader Wednesday. First pitch at the Patriots Point Athletics Complex is set for 3 p.m.
Tennis
Charleston Southern’s women’s tennis team suffered its first loss of the season as the Buccaneers fell to host Stetson, 5-2.
The Hatters improved to 2-0 with the win, while CSU fell to 1-1.
Marketa Placha and Alexandra Walters picked up both of CSU’s points in the match, winning tough matches in singles action.
