Scott Wood hits last-second shot to lift N.C. State over Clemson
CLEMSON - Clemson coach Brad Brownell called N.C. State’s Scott Wood the best shooter in the ACC earlier this year and Wood lived up to the billing Sunday, hitting a game-winning 3 with one second left to give N.C. State a 58-57 win over Clemson on Sunday.
With 7.5 seconds to play, Clemson’s Milton Jennings missed the first of a one-and-one free throw opportunity, with Clemson lead by two, setting the stage for Wood.
It was a much-needed win for N.C. State (17-7, 6-5 ACC) which was the ACC preseason favorite and welcomed back injured guard Lorenzo Brown (15 points) on Sunday.
It was a devastating loss for Clemson (12-11, 4-7) which led for nearly the entire game after being routed at Virginia on Thursday. The silver lining was Jordan Roper scored a career-best, and game-high 17 points in his first career start.
