MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- A South Carolina high school athlete has been removed from his basketball team following his arrest on a sexual assault charge steaming from an incident on an activity bus.

The Myrtle Beach Sun News reported Friday that Shaquawan Franklin McGillis of Loris is charged with third-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct. Authorities say the 17-year-old from Green Sea Floyds High School pulled down his pants and then tried to put his hands in the pants of a 15-year-old girl.

Another boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, is also charged. Authorities say the assault occurred last month on a Horry County schools activity bus.

McGill was released on $40,000 bail with the condition that he be monitored by GPS.
