Stephen Colbert coming to Charleston to stump for sis
First Congressional District hopeful Elizabeth Colbert Busch’s younger brother, comedian Stephen Colbert, is coming to Charleston on Feb. 23 for a fundraiser.
The private event will be held at The Alley on Columbus Street.
There will be a general reception and bowling from 4-6 p.m. for a $250 contribution. For between $1,000 and $2,600, there will be a private reception at 3 p.m. with photos and a book signing.
There will be a 6:30 p.m. private dinner at a location to be announced later for $5,200.

On Wednesday, Colbert joked about his sister’s candidacy on his Comedy Central show, “The Colbert Report.”
The comedian also mentioned several Republicans in the race, giving them goofy nicknames. He didn’t mention either of Colbert-Busch’s opponents in the March 19 Democratic primary, Charleston businessman Martin Skelly and perennial candidate Ben Frasier.
“As a broadcast journalist,” Colbert said, “I’m obligated to maintain pure objectivity. It doesn’t matter that my sister is intelligent, hard-working, compassionate and dedicated to the people of South Carolina. I will not be mentioning any of that on my show.”
