After the jury deadlocked for a second time Friday, the trial for the man accused of killing a North Charleston couple in 2010 ended in a hung jury.
Rick Morrocco Williams, 27, of St. Stephen, is charged with the murders of 58-year-old Nathaniel Lonnie and 44-year-old Angela Ferguson. He will have to go to trial again for a third time.
Circuit Court Judge Kristi Harrington declared a mistrial this afternoon after the jury was unable to decide on a verdict.
Williams is accused of shooting Lonnie and Ferguson in the heads inside their apartment at 2110 Durant Ave. in North Charleston on Dec. 31, 2010.
Williams testified Thursday that he killed the couple, who he had been living with, in self-defense. Williams said Lonnie came at him with a sword and Ferguson with a box cutter.
It was Williams’ second trial. Last February, a judge declared a mistrial in his case after a juror admitted he did not disclose certain information during jury selection.
