Davis to give state of Berkeley County address at chamber meeting

Berkeley County supervisor Dan Davis will deliver his state of the county address Friday at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

A taped version of the address also will be available via video on the county’s website, www.berkeleycountysc.gov, early next week.

A couple of years ago, critics complained that Davis’ speech was delivered at a pay-per-plate event. Berkeley Chamber Executive Director Elaine Morgan said the address has been given at chamber meetings annually for many years.

Other elected officials, such as Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, give their state of the city addresses in free public forums.

Since then, Davis has recorded the address for online viewing.

Davis also typically gives the address at several civic organization meetings.

Davis is the only elected official to lead a county locally. Charleston and Dorchester counties have administrators hired by council.
