The torch has been passed at Torch Velvet Lounge in downtown Charleston. A restaurant owner now owns the bar at 545 King St.
Alberto Reyes of Los Arcos Mexican restaurants in Goose Creek and Mount Pleasant recently bought the bar from Mike Vitale. Reyes has brought on nightclub owner Marc Fisher of City Bar as managing partner and director of operations for Torch, which will continue to operate as is under the same name.
Torch, which has featured art exhibits, fashion shows, DJ expos, specialty acts, bands and theme parties, opened in 2005 when upper King was not the vibrant area it has become. It’s open daily until 2 a.m. with a different DJ every night.
Vitale has partnered with Dean Felber of Hootie and the Blowfish and will open a new venue in the spring in St. Petersburg, Fla.
