Students back in school after fire reported at Gregg Middle
Staff report
School is back in session after the Summerville Fire and Rescue Department extinguished a fire at Gregg Middle School this morning.
The department received a call reporting a fire in one of the school’s bathrooms shortly before 10 a.m., Fire Chief Richard Waring said.
The school is located at 500 Greenwave Boulevard in Summerville.
Firefighters extinguished the flames in roughly ten minutes, Waring said.
No injuries were reported and crews have cleared the scene, Waring said.
Flames were confined to the bathroom, but smoke spread throughout the building, Waring said.
All students were temporarily evacuated from the school. They have since returned to the their classrooms, Dorchester District 2 spokeswoman Pat Raynor said.
Five classrooms in the school’s 400 building have been displaced due to the incident, Raynor said. Those students have been moved to other classrooms.
