All lanes of Interstate 526 reopened after multiple wrecks

Traffic is moving again after two wrecks on I-526 between Dorchester Road and the Ashley River bridge had stalled traffic earlier this afternoon.

The Highway Patrol reported two wrecks, both without injuries, one at I-526 west and Ashley River Road and the other at I-526 east at the Westmoreland Bridge.

Earlier today, North Charleston Police conducted a speed enforcement operation on the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-526. The operation began at 6:00 a.m. and concluded at noon.

A total of 238 citations were issued, and one arrest was made. The most common citation was for speeding, for which 165 citations were issues. One arrest was made for a stolen license plate.
