Man runs off in trooper’s handcuffs
A man who was pulled over by the Highway Patrol on I-26 today ran off in handcuffs.
A trooper stopped a car on I-26 near the College Park Road rest area because the driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts, Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said.
The passenger started acting suspicious and the trooper cuffed him to run a check to see if there was warrant out for him. The man took off running with his hands cuffed behind his back.
Berkeley County and Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies helped search the area, including dogs and a helicopter.
The search was called off after the man was not found, Wyant said.
She didn’t have details on the status of a possible warrant.
