Police: Man threatened wife with knife, hit her with can of bug spray
Charleston police on Sunday arrested a man accused of threatening his wife with a knife and beating her with a can of bug spray.
A woman on Jan. 27 told police that her husband, Stephen Cocco, 47, of Rutherford Way, assaulted her and fled their home in a red Honda.
The couple had been arguing over finances when the assault occurred, an incident report states.
Cocco grabbed his wife by the arms and threw her to the ground, the report states.
The woman told police Cocco had a small knife in his hand when he pinned her to the ground.
She received small cuts on her hands from the knife as she tried to escape, the report states.
Cocco followed his wife as she ran to the living room, according to the report.
The woman told police that her husband grabbed a can of bug spray, pushed her down on the couch, placed his knee on her chest and hit her in the neck with the can.
Before he fled the scene, the woman said Cocco told her that he loved her and that he was sorry, according to the report.
Police charged Cocco with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature in connection with the incident.
He was held at the Charleston County jail on Monday, pending release on $10,000 bail.
