Berkeley Middle School locked down was because of nearby incident

Berkeley Middle School was on lockdown for about 40 minutes today, according to Berkeley County School District officials.

The school went on lockdown at 2 p.m. on the recommendation of local law enforcement because of a disturbance nearby, district spokeswoman Susan Smyre Haire said.

The lockdown was lifted by 2:40 p.m., she said.

It did not interfere with dismissal or bus routes.

Parents were notified via the school’s automatic call-out system and the school’s Facebook page.

Moncks Corner Police Chief Chad Caldwell was not available for comment.
