Yankees’ spring training camp a RiverDogs reunion
The New York Yankees have announced the list of players invited to their 2013 major league spring training camp in Tampa, Fla. and there is a large presence of former Charleston RiverDogs on the list.
Of the 44 players invited, 23 are former RiverDogs. Seven of the invitees spent time in Charleston in 2012 with outfielder Tyler Austin, shortstop Cito Culver, catchers Francisco Arcia and Gary Sanchez, as well was pitchers Corey Black, Nick Goody, and Bryan Mitchell all receiving invitations.
In addition, infielder Greg Bird will be in big league camp this year with the Yankees, and he is expected to make his RiverDogs debut sometime in 2013.
“Our formal relationship with the Yankees allows us to provide our fans with tremendous talent on the field every game, and this is more proof of that,” said RiverDogs general manager Dave Echols. “We’re happy for all of the former RiverDogs that received invitations to the camp, and we wish them all the best of luck.”
Season Tickets, mini-plans and group opportunities are currently on sale for the RiverDogs’ 2013 season. The home portion of the schedule begins April 11 with a seven-game homestand that features the Augusta GreenJackets and the Rome Braves.
