Coroner: Ridgeville man shot three times in the back of the head

A 64-year-old Ridgeville man found dead in his yard Friday night was shot three times in the back of the head, Dorchester County Coroner Christopher Nisbet said Sunday.

Nisbet said the autopsy on Jimmy Edwards of Ridge Road was completed Sunday morning. The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide.

Edwards was talking on the phone with relatives while he was on his way home Friday. Later, they heard two gunshots around 10:50 p.m., but thought nothing of it until Edwards failed to come home after the phone call, Nisbet said.

After some time, they went outside and found him on the ground in the yard,

Anyone with information about the case should call the Sheriff’s Office at 832-0300 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
