Nothing found in search for Gayle McCaffrey in West Ashley
Charleston County detectives and search volunteers came up empty today during another search in the case of missing mother Gayle McCaffrey of West Ashley.
Investigators scoured the private property off Highway 61 near Magnolia Plantation, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said. The effort ended about 3 p.m., and no further searching is planned, Brady said.
The search was not based on new information. Investigators visited the property in May 2012 and wanted to search it again under different seasonal conditions.
McCaffrey, 36, was reported missing March 18 by her husband Bob McCaffrey. Investigators consider him a suspect in his wife’s presumed death, Brady said.
Gayle McCaffrey’s sister, Helen Banach, and members of the First Baptist Church of Charleston, where the family attends, served batches of chili to the searchers at lunchtime.
“Whenever we get a bunch of people together, it’s that much more of a possibility that we’ll find something,” Banach said. “It’s another chance to find her and bring her home.”
