Stingrays stumble at Gwinnett
DULUTH, GA. — The South Carolina Stingrays (23-23-1-3) suffered a 3-0 shutout loss fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (28-18-2-1) on Saturday night.
Gladiators forward Justin Bowers kicked off the scoring 8:09 into the first period, tapping a pass from forward Joey Haddad past the right pad of Stingrays netminder Ryan Zapolski, who had 34 saves on 37 shots.
Gladiators forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel made it 2-0 on a power-play goal at 2:11 of the final frame, lifting a shot over the glove of Zapolski from the bottom of the right-wing circle.
Haddad sealed the victory moments later with his sixth goal of the season at 4:08.
Gwinnett goaltender Louis Domingue stopped all 25 Stingrays shots. The Stingray went 0 for 6 on the power play while the Gladiators went 1 for 5.
The Stingrays next play Friday at the North Charleston Coliseum, hosting the Evansville IceMen at 7 p.m.
