SC coroner: 78-year-old killed, body left in trash
GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina coroner says he is investigating the slaying of an elderly Gaffney woman whose body was found stuffed in a trash can behind her home.
Cherokee County coroner Dennis Fowler said today a friend stopped by the home of 78-year-old Marjorie Knuckles on Sunday and found her dead body stuffed in a city-issued, rolling trash cart.
Fowler says the bin was left behind a small storage building in the back yard. The coroner says it appears Knuckles had been dead for several days.
Fowler says an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday in Newberry to help the investigation into a death he’s calling a homicide. Fowler says he’s withholding other details about the woman’s injuries or her cause of death.
