Dorchester County authorities are investigating the death of a 64-year-old Ridgeville man as a homicide.
Jimmy Edwards of Ridge Road was talking on the phone with relatives while he was on his way home last night, Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said.
Later, they heard two gunshots around 10:50 p.m., but thought nothing of it until Edwards failed to come home after the phone call, Nisbet said.
After some time, they went outside and found him on the ground in the yard, Nisbet said in a news release.
It appears there was only one gunshot wound to the eye, but an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday, the coroner said.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating the shooting.
Sheriff’s Maj. John Garrison confirmed that an investigation was underway but said it was too soon to release more details.
Anyone with information about the case should call the Sheriff’s Office at 832-0300 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
