Emergency workers rescued a sailor who became stuck in mud after his boat also became mired Thursday afternoon.
Members from the Charleston Fire Department, Coast Guard and Charleston County Rescue came to the aid of the boater, who was stuck in the Ashley River off Lockwood Boulevard, near the City Marina, Fire Marshal Mike Julazadeh said.
The episode began when a man’s sailboat became stuck in the mud, Julazadeh said. The man got out of the boat and got stuck in the mud himself.
Rescue boats had a difficult time getting to the man due to shallow conditions, Julazadeh said.
The victim, however, was removed from the water and was checked by paramedics, he said.
The incident caused some traffic snarls along Lockwood due to the emergency vehicles.
