Dog killed, Moncks Corner home destroyed in fire
A fire this morning that destroyed a home in Moncks Corner also killed a dog, authorities say.
Firefighters with the Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department responded to a mobile home at the intersection of Old Highway 52 and Gaillard Road shortly before 6 a.m,. Fire Chief Scott Lee said.
Whitesville Fire Department helped put out the blaze, which Lee said took about 20 minutes to control.
Firefighters determined that the home’s hot water heater may have caused the fire, Lee said.
Three adults and eight Chihuahuas were at the home when the flames ignited, Lee said.
No one was hurt in the fire, but one of the dogs was killed, Lee said.
Crews performed CPR in attempts to revive the dog, but they were not successful, Lee said.
The home was a total loss, but the family did salvage some personal items including clothes, a television and laptop computer, Lee said.
