Civil War historian Eric Foner to visit two campuses

Eric Foner, historian and author of the Pulizer Prize-winning “The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery,” will be in the Charleston area for two free public lectures.

He will discuss Lincoln and slavery at 6 p.m. Thursday on the main campus of Trident Technical College, 7000 Rivers Avenue. The lecture will take place in Building 410, 212-216.

He will discuss the same topic at 7 p.m. Friday in Physician’s Auditorium on the campus of the College of Charleston.

Foner, a professor of history at Columbia University is among the foremost authorities on the Civil War and Reconstruction. His books have won the Pulitzer, Bancroft, Parkman, Lincoln and Los Angeles Times Book prizes.

His College of Charleston talk is part of the Southern American Studies Association Biennial Conference and sponsored by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of English, Department of History, Avery Research Center, African American Studies and the Fort Sumter-Fort Moultrie Historical Trust.
