Charleston abortion clinic encounter results in arrest

Tensions outside a West Ashley abortion clinic resulted in an arrest when a protester said a former center volunteer hit him with his car.
William Gasque, 81, regularly protests outside the Charleston Women's Medical Clinic on S.C. Highway 61.
Larry Carter Center, 60, told The Post and Courier he was dropping something off at the center for an acquaintance.
A video of the incident was posted on YouTube. Gasque was holding a sign in the driveway outside the clinic Jan. 12 when Center was trying to drive off in his car. Gasque didn't move, and Center kept inching forward until he brushed Gasque out of the way.
Gasque later filed a complaint.
Center, a Green party candidate who ran against Rep. Bobby Harrell for S.C. House District 114, was arrested Friday and charged with simple assault. He was released from the Charleston County jail Saturday.
