Deputies: Man said he was Gov. Haleys bodyguard
NEWBERRY — A Chapin man has been arrested for claiming to be a personal bodyguard for South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
Newberry County sheriff’s deputies said Monday that 39-year-old William Scott Fowler had been charged with impersonating a police office and soliciting business as a private investigator.
Deputies say they got a complaint a man was portraying himself as a State Law Enforcement Division agent assigned to the governor’s security detail. Authorities say the man had also told people he was a private investigator.
It wasn’t known if Fowler has an attorney.
Deputies said Fowler has several previously convictions that include forgery, impersonating an officer, credit card theft and defrauding a federally insured institution.
