Kiawahs Sanctuary hotel earns AAAs top rating again
The Sanctuary hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort is once again a AAA Five Diamond property.
The upscale lodging earned the travel club’s top distinction for the seventh year, AAA Carolinas announced today.
The hotel opened in 2004. Its owner is a group led by resort owner and Virginia billionaire Bill Goodwin.
The only other Five Diamond hotel in South Carolina for 2013 is the Inn at Palmetto Bluff near Hilton Head Island.
AAA said its highest rating is based on anonymous overnight visits by full-time specially trained inspectors. It said 0.3 percent of the more than 59,000 annual inspections results in a Five Diamond rating. The list is updated annually.
“These properties are unique, enticing and extraordinary — complemented by an extensive array of personalized services that consistently exceed the expectations of even the most refined traveler,” said David E. Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolinas.
The Woodlands Inn in Summerville had been a Five Diamond property in both the lodging and dining categories for years before its sale and closing in 2012.
No South Carolina restaurants earned the top rating this year.
